In the past insurance companies were accepting abbreviated versions of a Condition and Value or a C&V survey to write a policy on a vessel. Over time this abbreviated inspection became known as an Insurance Survey and did not require a haul out for bottom inspection. The "Insurance Survey" primary focus was on items which could cause the sinking of the vessel, and items which would cause a safety risk to the passengers and the crew. During the last year insurance companies have stopped accepting the old "Insurance Survey" and are requiring full C&V Surveys. They want to know the condition of the entire vessel and vessel systems before issuing a policy. Virtually all of the surveys we have done this year required a haul out and bottom inspection.
With C&V surveys sea-trials and haul outs are optional. We just need to know what your insurance company wants.
